Spanish football giant, Real Madrid, has sacked its coach, Carlos Ancelotti, for not winning a single trophy this season.
Ancelotti led the club to victory in the Spanish Cup before claiming the club’s 10th European Cup in the 2013/2014 football season.
This season, Ancelotti’s Real was knocked out by Juventus in the Champions League semi-finals, while Barcelona won La Liga last weekend leading Madrid with two points at the end of the season’s matches.
According to the club’s website, the president of the club, Florentino Perez, told a news conference that sacking Ancelotti was not an easy decision.
“What did Ancelotti do wrong?” Perez said. “I don’t know.
“The demands here at Real Madrid are very high. The affection that the players and the fans have for Carlo is the same as the affection I myself have for him.”
Real beat rivals Atletico Madrid 4-1 after extra time in the Champions League final in June 2014 to claim ‘La Decima,’ their 10th victory in Europe’s most prestigious club competition.
Ancelotti has never won a Spanish league title since joining the club from Paris St-Germain in July 2013.
Napoli boss, Rafael Benitez, is the favourite to take over the vacant role once the Italian season ends as reported by Real’s website.
